One City, Three Generations of Yards

Hydroseeding in West Valley City changes with the neighborhood. The eastern side, around Redwood, Chesterfield and East Granger, is mostly 1960s and 1970s brick ranch homes. The central area includes Lakepark and the Westlake Business Park. The west side, in West Hunter, Woodhaven and Oquirrh, is mostly planned subdivisions from the 1990s and 2000s. Each era left different soil, different sprinkler systems and different lawn problems.

East side: tired lawns

Yards on the older east side are 50 or more years old. Thatch, compaction and shade from grown trees thin them out. We core or loosen the surface, overseed with hydroseed and patch bare spots, which revives the lawn without the cost of a full reinstall.

West side: builder grading

Newer subdivisions toward the Oquirrh Mountains were graded fast and topsoil was often thin. Lawns there struggle with hard subsoil and poor drainage near foundations. We fix the grade, bring in topsoil and reseed. Our grading crew can also trench for drainage where water sits against a house.

Farm history under the houses

Welsh pioneers settled Granger in 1849 and developed irrigation and farming; the name came from the area's successful farms. Hunter was settled in 1876, irrigation began there in 1881, and fruit trees were the main crop. Old orchard and field ground tends to have better soil than the surrounding bench, so we check what is under a yard before deciding how much topsoil to add.

Commercial and river work

The Jordan River marks the city's eastern boundary, and business parks and big venues fill the middle. Commercial sites need sediment control during construction and a stable cover afterward. Our crews set the fence lines and inlet filters first, then come back to hydroseed open areas and basins. The city grew rapidly from the 1970s and passed 140,000 residents by 2020, so construction is steady.

West Valley City Questions

My 1970s West Valley lawn is thin. Do I need to start over?

Usually not. Loosening the surface and overseeding with hydroseed revives most older lawns.

Why is the grass on my newer west-side lot so weak?

Builder grading often left thin topsoil over hard subsoil. Adding topsoil and fixing the grade before reseeding helps a lot.

Do you handle commercial sites and business parks?

Yes. That covers silt fence and drain inlet filters during the build, plus hydroseeding of open areas when it wraps up.

Water pools against my foundation. Can you fix that before seeding?

Yes. We regrade and can trench for drainage, then seed the disturbed areas.
