Bountiful Lawns on the Mountainside
Hydroseeding in Bountiful is hillside work for most homeowners. The original town sits at the base of the Wasatch Range, and most residential neighborhoods climb high up the mountain slopes; nearly all the land east of town is Forest Service property. Steep yards are hard to sod and harder to keep seeded by hand. Hydroseed sprays on evenly, and a good mulch layer helps it hold on a grade.
Wetter than the valley floor
Bountiful averages about 23.36 inches of precipitation a year, with April the wettest month at 2.96 inches, and about 58.7 inches of snow. August is the driest at 0.90 inches. More water means faster germination in spring, but it also means more runoff off steep lots. Slopes here get bonded fiber matrix or stapled blankets first, and then the spring moisture does the work.
Grading before seeding
On a sloped lot, grade decides where water goes. We shape the yard so runoff moves across it slowly or follows a planned swale, instead of running straight down toward the house below. Where the slope is too steep to mow, we suggest a native or wildflower mix that holds soil with less care.
A gardening reputation
The city is named for its reputation as a great place for gardening. Settled in 1847 and incorporated in 1892, Bountiful grew fast during the late 1940s through the 1960s, so many homes are 60 or more years old. Older lawns here respond well to overseeding once compaction and thatch are dealt with.
Near the canyon trails
Mueller Park Canyon and its popular hiking trail sit above town. Lots near the forest edge and canyon mouths see more runoff after storms and snowmelt. A well-anchored seedbed and a clear path for water keep those yards in one piece.

Bountiful Questions
Can you hydroseed a steep Bountiful backyard?
Yes. Steep Bountiful lots get bonded fiber matrix or stapled blankets over the seed to hold it in place.
What can I plant on a slope too steep to mow?
A native or wildflower mix holds soil with less watering and no mowing.
Is spring or fall better for seeding a Bountiful yard?
Early spring, when April moisture helps germination, or early fall after the August dry spell.
Water from up the hill runs through my yard. Can you help?
We regrade to give runoff a planned path, then seed so the path stays covered.
