A Planned Community Built on Water

Hydroseeding in Stansbury Park often means working right next to water. The community was laid out in 1970 around a manmade lake, with 143 houses lining its shores and another 178 on Captain's Island, a peninsula. An 18-hole golf course with 14 lakes runs through the middle of town, and the natural, spring-fed Mill Pond sits on the north edge. Lawns that slope to a shoreline need extra care so soil and fertilizer stay out of the water.

Shoreline yards

On lakefront lots we keep the lowest strip of the yard as a buffer: a dense seeded edge, sometimes with an erosion control blanket, that slows runoff before it reaches the lake. During any regrading we put silt fence or wattles between bare soil and the shoreline. The lake already has weed growth that has been managed with grass carp, and extra sediment and nutrients do not help.

Fast growth

Stansbury Park grew from 300 residents in 1980 to 9,851 in 2020, nearly doubling between 2010 and 2020. The developed area passed 2.1 square miles by 2014, larger than the official census area. New streets mean new yards, and new yards here usually start as bare graded dirt that needs topsoil and fine grading before seeding.

Hard water

Drinking water comes from deep wells southeast of the community, and an original well was abandoned in 1985 because of high hardness. The potable well also serves the golf course. Hard water can leave crusts on bare soil, so we keep the seedbed covered with hydromulch and recommend watering in short, frequent cycles while the seed sprouts.

Common areas and approvals

The Stansbury Service Agency has handled common areas, the golf course and the pool since 1992, and the community association approves housing and remodeling plans. If your lot is subject to association review, check landscape plans with them before we seed. We also seed common areas and park strips for the community and for builders.
